BI & Visualization Lab
Understand where capability lives; from the organization as a whole to the individual people who hold it.
Explore the organization, compare a team, then meet the people behind its strengths and development gaps.
All organizations, people, capability ratings, and outputs shown here are fictional and illustrative.
Capability map
Select a skill to inspect its readiness, dependency, and internal support.
The complete partitioned capability map is optimized for desktop. The mobile view presents the same data as a simpler, tap-friendly list.

From question to decision
The implementation follows the same reasoning path as Excel → Power Query → Power BI, while using a web-native interaction model.
People, departments, roles, assessments, and targets at explicit grains.
Relationships connect each person and team to one curated skill hierarchy.
Targets, holder coverage, dependency, risk, readiness, and mentor eligibility.
One stable treemap, one focused drawer, and a role-level capability fingerprint.
A common picture for discussing strengths, gaps, knowledge concentration, and support.
D3 sizes tiles from fixed skill importance. React changes values and emphasis without moving the hierarchy.
The metrics, skill drawer, radar, and mobile list all derive from the same deterministic calculations.
Readiness is a planning aid. A real product would require governed assessments, permissions, and validated taxonomies.
Targets and holders: proficiency uses a 0–5 scale. Targets are manager-defined for each role or department. Qualified holders meet the active target; required holders are the target headcount, not the total team size.
Readiness: for organizations and departments, average each active skill’s current / target ratio (capped at 100%), then round down. Current is the relevant people’s mean proficiency, rounded to one decimal. Individual readiness instead counts role targets met, divided by role targets, rounded to a percentage.
At risk: more than half the relevant people are below target, or qualified holders are fewer than half the required holders (rounded up). Watch: otherwise, average proficiency is below target or holder coverage is short. Ready means neither shortfall applies. Status uses unrounded averages so display rounding cannot hide a gap.
Consultant contribution: external qualified holders / all qualified holders. No qualified holders means zero coverage, not independence. The dependency indicator counts skills with any qualified consultant contribution.
Mentor coverage: the percentage of non-ready skills with an eligible internal mentor; 100% if there are no gaps. Eligibility requires a recorded mentoring skill and proficiency meeting this scope’s target. Consultants appear separately in the drawer and do not inflate internal mentor coverage. These illustrative measures support a conversation, not an objective assessment of people.
